Acne

Thorough skin assessment and effective treatment plans for acne.

Acne is not just a teenage problem. Adult acne is common and can be persistent, painful, and damaging to confidence. Over-the-counter products often are not enough. A medical assessment identifies the type and severity of your acne, and prescription treatments — from topical retinoids to oral antibiotics — can make a real difference.

Common symptoms

  • Blackheads and whiteheads (comedonal acne)
  • Red, inflamed spots (papules and pustules)
  • Deep, painful lumps under the skin (cystic acne)
  • Scarring or dark marks left by previous breakouts
  • Acne on the face, back, chest, or shoulders
  • Breakouts that worsen around periods or with stress

When to see a doctor

If your acne is not responding to over-the-counter treatments after 8–12 weeks, if it is leaving scars, or if it is affecting your confidence, a private GP consultation can help. Cystic or nodular acne should be assessed promptly to prevent scarring.

How we help at AtWell

We assess your skin type, acne severity, and history. Treatment may include prescription-strength topical treatments, oral antibiotics, hormonal therapies, or referral to a consultant dermatologist for isotretinoin (Roaccutane) if needed. We follow up to ensure your treatment is working.
