Diabetes Risk

Early detection and proactive management of diabetes risk.

Type 2 diabetes develops gradually, and many people live with raised blood sugar for years before diagnosis. Early detection through blood testing — particularly HbA1c (a three-month average of blood sugar) — can identify pre-diabetes and diabetes before serious complications develop. Lifestyle changes at this stage can prevent or delay the condition.

Common symptoms

  • Increased thirst and frequent urination
  • Unexplained fatigue or tiredness
  • Blurred vision
  • Slow wound healing or frequent infections
  • Tingling or numbness in hands or feet
  • Often no symptoms in early stages — blood testing is the key

When to see a doctor

Adults over 40, those with a family history of diabetes, those who are overweight, or those from South Asian, African-Caribbean, or Black African backgrounds have a higher risk and should be tested regularly. If you have any of the symptoms above, testing is important.

How we help at AtWell

HbA1c testing is available as part of a blood panel or health assessment. Your GP will explain the results clearly and, if your levels are raised, build a plan including dietary advice, exercise guidance, weight management support, and medication if needed. Regular monitoring ensures the condition is well controlled.
